Intentional Living // How to Make More Intentional Choices

Sustainable living has greatly interested me. I jumped on this bandwagon almost two years ago when I started thinking about the ingredients in common household cleaners. I fell in love with the sustainable lifestyle because I love the DIY mentality, the idea that less is more, and the simpler lifestyle. On a previous post on slow and simple living, I talked about the pressures of trying to do or buy all the things relating with that lifestyle. While I love this lifestyle I sometimes feel like I get so bogged down with all the information and products that I have no idea where to start. There are so many buzz words going around within the sustainable living lifestyle. Zero-waste, vegan, organic, cruelty free, self-sufficient, non-toxic, conscious consumerism, fair trade, ethical sourcing, recycled, clean eating, free from harmful chemicals, wildlife protection, zero-carbon, the list goes on! It can be really overwhelming to try to live a more sustainable life. As I’ve mentioned before, when it comes to the sustainable lifestyle, I want all the things! For example, I recently heard about a specific ingredient in non-toxic toothpaste, and so I spent hours researching it today, narrowing down the best one. All…

How to Not Let Social Media Take Over Your Life

I have been pulling back from social media more and more these days. It started about a year ago when I decided to permanently delete Facebook. The heaviness of what was going on during that time coupled with the nastiness I was seeing from friends and family towards other people was too much. I found myself feeling more and more frustrated and depressed whenever I went on there, so I unfriended Facebook.  Now I find myself dealing with that heaviness again. I’ve noticed that I’ve been consuming too much information about all that’s going on in the world. Once again, it is leaving me feeling frustrated and depressed.  I don’t want this to be a bashing session of social media, because it does have its place in the world. It does help people connect, who wouldn’t normally be able to. It also is great for networking. I have personally benefited from social media when I joined an online book club for over a year now. Social media has its place, but it cannot take over your life.  Here are some of the pitfalls of social media: Over Capacity on Social Interactions Social media allows you to interact with hundreds of…

Serotonin Boost // 3 Ways to Boost your Serotonin

We have been having such nice sunny weather! One thing that has stood out to my this year is that whenever I go out to Miracle Ranch to ride horses on Wednesdays, it always seems to be the nicest day of the week! Anyways, I’ve noticed that my mood seems to improve whenever it is nice and sunny and warm outside. recently heard someone say the phrase “serotonin boost” in regards to doing some kind of enjoyable activity when they were feeling a little bit anxious or stressed. This got me thinking. Is there science behind doing certain activities to boost serotonin levels? Serotonin is a natural chemical that the body produces. It can be found throughout the body, and in the brain it is a neurotransmitter which takes messages around the brain to support its functioning. It can help stabilize the mood and help regulate anxiety and stress. It’s definitely super beneficial to have.  I find that in my own life, when I am feeling stressed or anxious, I tend to want to seek activities that help boost my serotonin. I have been calling these activities my “serotonin boost” because it’s a fun reminder that I am intentionally trying…
